If you grew up in the 90s, you must have seen or rocked a Starter jacket. Remember those puffy rain-resistant jackets with the oversized team logo? Yea, those jackets! Well, it looks like they are setting for a huge return to the market in fall of 2008. However this time around under the name of the Black Label, the project is spearheaded by none other than creative director Jeff Staples. Aside from the insanely popular jackets, the upcoming collection will feature crewnecks and tees as well. The website is up, but is currently locked down for their retailers. Stay posted for more info. Here’s a sneak peek of the upcoming collection:

What is it about liquid sugar shooting in the air that makes us so crazy. I mean we’ve all seen it before but yet we can’t take our eyes off of it. Here are some photos from students in Belgium who got together to do one of the largest science experiments of all time. 1500 of them took part in the explosive record-breaking event was held in Ladeuzeplein square in Leuven, Belgium.

It’s been a great month! The weather is starting to turn in Vancity and everyone’s energy levels are skyrocketing. I know mine are, I’ve been to the gym seven freakin’ days in a row. I know both Hill and Spy are gearing up for the summer too as I catch them in the gym once in awhile striving for the ever elusive version 2.0 body. Spiro is probably a beta version still but I think Hill is damn close to stable and ready for launch this summer.
I know I had a great month, I killed on my finals and still had time to see Kanye, go to Victoria for a few days, and celebrate like 6 birthdays! That said, a lot of those things held back our efforts to get up some FUTV vids. Mr. F is planning to take 20 credits this summer semester and I have like 14 so it going to be hard to shoot any longform videos. I am still waiting for my Flip Video camera and I am hoping that I can make a lot of use out of it. I think this audience will enjoy some 2-3 minute hi jinx now and again.
As far as the party/club scene goes, I think I am not alone when I say that Vancouver is getting stale. Maybe it’s just me. Maybe it’s a transition period. All the hot clubs are no longer hot. Plush, Mirage, Caprice…they’ve have lost their edge. The new clubs like Fabric, Modern, they are just rehashed, remodeled clubs that weren’t successful prior. We lack something here. I think I only went out 3-4 times this month and now I don’t feel any desire to go back for awhile.
I think this summer is going to be filled with more bbqs and trips to the beach for myself. I think one of the best days of the month was when twenty of us got together for a Poutine Party! We had 50lbs of potatos fried up and covered in gravy and cheese…mmmmm. I enjoy those times where loud, poorly selected music, doesn’t get in the way of chilling and talking with your friends. And a group of Don Ed Hardos don’t get in the way of me and a beer.
It’s going to be a good summer. I hope you stick around because we are going to keep blogging about random shit that we like, want, and think you should have.

My all time favorite band returned Tuesday by giving away their brand new single. The song, “Violent Hill” is offered through Coldplay’s official Web site. The site asks for the user’s email address and postcode details, after which an automatically-generated email is sent with instructions for downloading. This track will be the first single from their highly anticipated fourth studio album titled, “Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends” which will arrive June 17 via Capitol Records.
As for the new single, the U.K. quartet collaborated with one of the best producers and musicians in rock history, Brian Eno (U2, Talking Heads) who also produced the rest of the upcoming album. Eno holds a reputation for pushing artists out of their comfort zones and into new territory. Evidently, “Violet Hill” has a harder, more experimental sound than previous Coldplay releases. The track begins with a lengthy ambient intro, then Chris Martin’s voice and piano break into a stately ballad, only to be interrupted by electric guitar riffs and thumping kick drum. Nearing the final seconds, the song returns to a much more reassuring Coldplay sound.
This is not the only thing Coldplay is giving away. As a part of ongoing promotions for the new album, the band will be performing three free shows which will take place June 16 in London and June 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The third show (at a date to be determined) will be performed in Barcelona, Spain, where most of the album was recorded. And don’t forget the band will be in Pemberton, BC in August headlining the music festival.

Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends tracklisting:
1. “Life In Technicolor”
2. “Cemeteries Of London”
3. “Lost!”
4. “42″
5. “Lovers In Japan/Reign Of Love”
6. “Yes”
7. “Viva La Vida”
8. “Violet Hill”
9. “Strawberry Swing”
10. “Death And All His Friends”
Download “Violent Hill” for free on the band’s official Web site.

I think a lot of people have been waiting for something like this. Normally it is extremely difficult to share your tunes, especially without getting a computer involved. That is of course until now. Want the latest album from your friends’ iPod? Simply connect both iPods to the miShare unit, press the button and away you go.
Providing that your files are not DRM protected (that’s digital rights management guys), everything from movies to photos to songs can be transferred. Even entire playlists. Nice. There is however one downside – for now the unit does not work with the iPhone or iPod touch.
Developed in Brooklyn and currently being shipped to all corners of the world for $100, may the sharing commence!

That’s the title of Phil Toledano’s new book he’s writing. He also is working on UNITED STATES OF ENTERTAINMENT-the idea behind this one is that the soul of the country is reflected in the way it entertains itself. But before a writer Toledano is a photographer, one with some serious conceptual skills I must add. I was inspired to write this post after seeing some of his latest work on his project Hope and Fear.
Toledano’s Hope and Fear project was featured on Woosta so I suggest you get over there if you wanna see the rest of the photo set and hear what Phil has to say in his interview.

The problem with being the next big thing is that it’s just something people say about you until they find something shinier to look at….although, if that’s what people are saying, I guess it’s better than ‘who?’

Yes-shoot exactly what you want to shoot-NEVER try and anticipate what people will want, or you’ll just become a McPhotographer
