I can recall about five years ago I first met Daniel Fu at a house party. At the time I felt like I was slightly cooler than him, mainly because I drove a ‘94 Supra, but also because he was the new comer to our circle of friends. I was a mystery to him for quite some time. He had heard about me I’m sure, but I barely knew he existed. So when the introduction first occurred I treated it with little significance. It was almost three years later that we met again. It was at this time that I realized he was much cooler than me then, and even more so now.

See he infiltrated our social circle with ease and rose to the top of the coolness hierarchy effortlessly, while I had just been situated there by default. What took me years of loyalty and generosity to achieve, he did in months. In fact, for a short period of time, I dropped out of the circle, I attended a different post-secondary institution than they all did, and I occupied the rest of my time with work and chicks. All the while, Dan and Hill went on to become true leaders of the group, not in a bureaucratic way, but in a social way. People looked to them to organize the weekend parties and to set trends in the group’s look and style.
From 2002 to 2006 I honestly have no clue where Spiro was. I don’t know who he was close friends with, where he lived, or what he did for work. I was close with Spiro in high school because we both were leadership students and we ran many social events together. But as I went MIA, so did he.In 2005, the pieces began to join together. An interesting fact, and a key ingredient to the development of B84 is that Hill and I share the same bornday. January 7th. Spiro is only 7 days earlier. This would eventually lead to joined birthday parties. In 2006 the three of them went to Las Vegas and I recall on the 7th of that year, attempting to call Hilmi to wish him Bon Anniversaire, but was greeted by Spiro who held Hilmi’s phone, “Hey man, can’t talk right now, in Vegas, roaming charges…”.

Thanks for remembering my birthday bitch. Jokes. I felt like I had lost touch with the group. They didn’t invite me to Vegas, but I didn’t deserve to be. I made little effort to stay in the loop back then. I knew I was making a mistake. So from then on I started making some new choices.Fast forward a year later, and this time I was drinking shots with them all at the Palms in Las Vegas. I vividly remember the night, it was really the first birthday that I spent with that many close friends. There were twelve of us at Rain that night. I think this night is one of the most important when discovering the roots of B84.Not only were the epic memories of that weekend setting a precedent for future Vegas Trips, but the fact that we caught a lot of it on camera. People were shooting tiny video clips on their digital cameras.
About six months after the trip, I found all the of videos and pictures in a folder on my laptop. Coming from a TV broadcasting background, I thought I would utilize my skills and edit a short video together for everyone to reminisce about. I couldn’t believe the reaction to the video. Everyone freaking loved it, even people who didn’t go were talking about it. I remember weeks after being at a restaurant and we were watching it on Hill’s iPhone. From then on, we started bringing cameras with us all the time. Dan’s birthday, our Xmas party, and then again in Vegas, the 2008 trip. But we were gonna do it up hardcore. I brought my DVX100, a broadcast quality video camera, and we shot a ton of footage. The highlight of the ensuing videos, was our adventure to AVN, the Adult Video Network expo. So pornstars were also a key ingredient to the blossoming of Block 84.
Our videos were catching a ton of great feedback, so we thought we would try and make something out of it. That is where Block 84 was born. It is our project to grow an audience who will enjoy our lifestyle videos, and our blogs that reflect our current lives and interests.Who will like Block84.com? People who want to live vicariously through us as we attempt a multitude of adventures. Or people who just want to laugh at us running into trays of lasagna, desperately searching for male pornstars, and drinking copious amounts of watermelon juice.
Best~
